Reading Tests and Outdoor Classroom

Last week, the students took their Reading Literature summative test for the third trimester.  Overall the students did well; however, many of the students struggled with RL.4.9 (comparing and contrasting theme).  This is definitely a higher level standard because the kids are not just comparing and contrasting the story; they must focus on a comparison of one specific thing, theme.  The standard was just introduced this trimester so we did some reteaching and practice with the standard this week.  Today, all the kids got a chance to retake the question for that standard.  You will see the retake question attached to the final test that is being sent home tonight.

Tomorrow, students will take their final assessment for reading non-fiction.

Yesterday we spent almost the whole day learning in the outdoor classroom!  A few weeks ago, we won a class reward, and the kids picked to spend a majority of the day in the outside classroom as their reward.  We just had to wait for nice weather and a day that my lesson plans could be seamlessly translated to outdoor learning.   It was a great classroom reward :)
