Math Word Problem Gallery Walk

To practice our multi-step word problem skills as they relate to fractions, we had a gallery walk. I wrote five real-world word problems all about the fourth grade teachers (I included a link to the document in case you want to try all the problems as extra practice for our math test on Monday 4/20)  Each child was assigned one of the five problems to complete individually. After all students had a chance to work their problem, they got together with the other students who had their same problem. From there they had to figure out which solution was best and make a poster to display their thinking. Then they did a "gallery walk" to see the results of all the problems with one group member staying put at the poster to explain the solution. Gallery walks are a great way to get students out of their seats and moving around the classroom. They also teach the kids learn from their peers and how to cooperate with others in problem solving.
